Animas Valley Loop

Animas Valley Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Every cycling hotbed needs a mellow, scenic ride for those days when you just don’t feel like suffering. In Durango, that ride is the Animas Valley Loop (also known as Bakers Bridge or simply the Valley Loop or Long Valley, depending on who you talk to).

Whatever you call it, this is a sublime, mostly flat ride that traces the perimeter of the wide, red rock wall-lined Animas Valley situated just north of Durango."

"This loop, known to locals as the “Long Valley Loop,” is a mellow river ride touring the beautiful Animas River Valley north of Durango—a rare option without big hills. Shoulders are almost nonexistent on some segments, so a little talent for the dance of traffic is helpful. The mellow slopes and simple route make this a good ride for gravity-averse folks who don’t mind sharing pavement with cars and trucks that much. An option to cut the mileage in half by taking an earlier turn across the river makes the loop even more attractive for all kinds of riders, especially those on a tight schedule." Read more
