The Colorado Trail: Kassler to South Platte Canyon Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This first segment of the Colorado Trail begins at the Waterton Canyon Trailhead next to the South Platte River. This is a very popular day use area and, undoubtedly, the busiest segment of the entire Colorado Trail.

In the first 6 miles, the road only gains about 40 feet per mile, which allows for a very pleasant walk, hike, jog or bicycle ride; and lots of people take advantage of it every day. After the first 7 miles, the trail gets a lot more vigorous; the domain of determined backpackers, expert mountain bikers and masochistic trail runners."
