Platt Park Neighborhood and South Pearl Street Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Platt Park neighborhood was originally part of the town of South Denver and an extension of the University of Denver community to the south of this area. After annexation with the city of Denver, spreading tramway car service made the neighborhood more accessible and appealing. In the 1950s I-25 cut the neighborhood’s main commercial district, Old South Pearl Street, in half, and it struggled to survive.
This walk takes you through the most vibrant few blocks of Old South Pearl Street, where a mass-transit line, the light-rail train, has once again brought new life to the area. On Sundays in summer and fall, one block of the street is closed for a bustling farmers market, and year-round many of the shops and restaurants emphasize locally grown ingredients, locally made items, and supporting locally owned businesses. A couple of blocks away is a historic park with its own unique story."
