Jarre Canyon

Jarre Canyon Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"There’s not much actual canyon going on here. Twelve miles of false flats, sharp climbs, and twisting descents separate the little town of Sedalia from the collection of cabins known as Sprucewood, where the pavement of CO 67 ends. This out-and-back is a scenic and interesting challenge. Sedalia is like a wormhole between two universes: the modern Denver metropolitan
area on one side and Civil War–era rural Colorado on the other.

South of the town the landscape opens up into beautiful green hills that were very familiar to local Native American tribes for centuries. Beginning in the 1850s, a portion of Douglas County that continues to defy the spread of development of
white settlers fenced off and claimed the land, carving irrigation ditches as high in the canyons as they could."
