6 Mile Lake Gulch/ Rimrock Loop

6 Mile Lake Gulch/ Rimrock Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Castlewood Canyon State Park is located 5 miles south of Franktown and approximately 40 miles north of Colorado Springs. With 2,634 acres and 14 miles of trails, this area begs for exploration. The trails are a mixture of singletrack and wider pathways, technical in spots with exposed tree roots and rocks. There are long flat sections along the creek bed, and gnarly ascents to the upper reaches of the canyon. Trails are mostly well marked, albeit an occasional unmarked junction. Housed within the park’s environs are remains of the ill-fated Castlewood Dam, which burst on August 3, 1933, sending water cascading to Denver and causing major flooding in the city."
