Whitmore Falls

Whitmore Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Henson Creek travels east from American Flats north of Engineer Pass, through the San Juan Mountains west of Lake City, and comes into town to join the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. Much of its route is along the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, and it’s here that the water appears to spring from the mountainside in a glorious plunge at Whitmore Falls.

Located at the northern end of the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, Lake City is home to five of Colorado’s many 14,000-foot peaks and a popular town for mountaineers, especially on summer weekends. Whitmore Falls is the only confirmed waterfall in
Lake City that hasn’t been rendered inaccessible to public viewing by private property limitations—like Crooke Falls or Argenta Falls—or dammed and spoiled like Treasure Falls, across from the Hard Tack Mine."
