Weminuche Pass Area Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Spend a day hiking to Weminuche Pass, and you’ll find lush meadows and wildflowers. The route provides access to the Continental Divide Trail (CDT). If you’re going into the wilderness on horseback, there’s a stock-unloading area 0.6 mile before the campground entrance. Stock unloading is not permitted in the campground.

From the parking area follow the signs south about 200 yards to a wilderness sign and trail register. After signing in at the register, which provides access to the Squaw Creek Trail as well, hike west on Weminuche Trail 818. You’ll hike past some old cabin remains after 0.3 mile and pass the Rio Grande Reservoir dam and spillway later. You’ll enter the wilderness at 0.8 mile."
