Reynolds Park Professional Review and Guide

"Oh, what a pain to climb out of Kennedy Gulch! Low gearing was designed for this type of ride. The grade is steep and many of you will push your bikes at times during the first mile. The pushing is well worth it, the view on top is spectacular.

Although ranked technically easy, some of the downhill portions of the trail do require better than beginner technical skills because of the steepness of the trail. Terrain: Smooth sandy hardpack, occasional small rocks."

"Tucked away in Kennedy Gulch, this prime piece of open space is about 6 miles south of the town of Conifer. As in other open space areas in Jefferson County, the trails are maintained and marked. A stiff climb to the Eagle’s View Trail leads to a spectacular overlook of the South Platte area and panoramic views to the east, west, and south."

My hiking buddy and I enjoyed the hike, especially the two geochache sites located on Chief Mountain. The 360 degree view at the top is spectacular. The day was cloudy and somewhat stormy, which made for some great photographs. A hungry chipmunk at the summit added to our pleasure. We're used to more rigorous hikes in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, but thoroughly enjoyed Cheif Mountain as a change of pace. The "On The Edge" duo, Jim and Dennis

Great hike and views. Please note - the driving directions say the trail head is 12.1 miles along the road to mt. evans. it is actually closer to 15 miles and can be most easily spotted by the ski lift on the opposite side of the road from the trailhead.
