Mount Baldy

Mount Baldy Professional Review and Guide

"Short, convenient drive to high point above Colorado Springs. An exhilarating backcountry experience with great views of the front range. Unlicensed vehicles are permitted on F.S. 379 but not on Gold Camp Road.

Service road to towers at top 12,349-ft. Almagre Mountain is usually in good condition, but rock falls on the upper portion of road can increase difficulty. Gate stops vehicles near top. Suitable for stock, high-clearance, 4WD SUVs if trail is clear of rocks and snow."

"The view from the top is one of the best in the neighborhood. Kansas is visible t the east, Pike's Peak looms in the north, and the short alpine wildflower season delivers a rare treat.

The downhill is fun, but soft spots and a few water bars can make things a bit hairy. A gate at the top of the ride marks land managed by the Colorado springs Water Department. Located west of Colorado Springs. Tread: 12.2 miles of four-wheel-drive road with patches of sand and loose gravel."

This is a nice drive that isn't very challenging...but the last 10 minutes going up before you reach the end of the trail and have to turn around is pretty intense because of the very narrow shelf you are driving on. I drove it while snowing so I am sure that increased my perception of how dangerous it was.

Hello, I took old stage road from manitou/colorado springs, colorado and traveled the road for about 3 hours. My girlfriend and I came to a point on the trail about 1.5 hours into the trip, and boulders from the cliffs had fallen and blocked the road, preventing us from going any further. Even though we were in a chevy S10 highrider ZR2, there was no match in crawling over these enormous boulders that had fallen. I snapped a picture of them in which they must've fallen that day. Other than that obstacle, the trail was easy, but required 4 wheel drive at times. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was great so I give this trail 4 stars. I want to find a more challenging trail in the future..such as more inclines and mud pits, more rocks to climb and creeks/rivers to cross. Thanks and enjoy your trail riding,

Very nice trail not too hard not too easy. Good trail for a rig that isn't all sooped up for real difficult obstacles. My wife and I did the trail in my 97 Tahoe 4x4 with a 3 in body lift and 33" ATs. Pretty narrow in some spots but it offers awesome views at the top and during trail. Near the top there is a rock slide that blocks the road unless you have a a lifted vehicle with bigger tires. Plan on attempting it again in about a month with my 74 chevy 1/2ton with 6in lift, 33's and winch

Great Sunday trip with the family. Easy and fun most of the way -- one tight squeeze/crawl about a 1/2 mile from the gate. Gate was closed and locked. But it is a nice hike from there up to the lake and towers.

this trail was a blast with two feet of snow. not a trail to cover in the winter without a winch and another vehicle. gorgeous drive with lots of trees, and scenic views.
