Chatfield Dam Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"Chatfield State Park offers a lot—a lake for boating, sailing, and fishing; horse rentals; sandy beaches; marinas; miles of hiking trails; and, yes, an expansive training area, where your dog can swim, wallow, and frolic off the leash to his heart’s content.

The dog training area consists of two loops around two large ponds. There’s also a large meadow that ends in a stand of tall cottonwoods, which provide cool shade on a hot day. The trail around the lake to the left starts out paved, but as it follows the shoreline, it becomes a narrow dirt path. The trail around the pond to the right is paved. On the north side of the lake, the trail intersects with a portion of the C–470 paved trail that’s popular among bicyclists."
