Carbonate Creek

Carbonate Creek Professional Review and Guide

"A day hike to pass at head of Carbonate Creek, or semi-loop to Crystal City Road. This trail climbs over a high alpine divide behind the granite crag of Daly Peak.

For day hikers, the high meadow at the 2.2-mile mark makes a fine one-way destination with sweeping mountain views. With a two-car (four-wheel-drive) shuttle, the trail can also be combined with the North Lost Trail Creek–Arkansas Mountain route for a longer day hike through the high country."

Trailhead hard to find, 50 feet off the road follow signs to Beaver Lake Retreat, just before hill up to retreat on left is a path. Trail is overgrown and not heavily traveled, wear long pants. Beautiful wild flowers, and lots of it is in the sun, wear a hat. A mile and half up (not too steep at all, more like a walk) you can go off the trail and follow the path down a risky embankment to a waterfall that rushes through a narrow gorge. This is worth the harrowing trip down the bank, just be careful of loose rocks. Views on trail, are of course, awesome.
