Mount Hope

Mount Hope Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Hopeful Couloir is Centennial Mount Hope’s premier mountaineering route. A majority of Hope’s many faces are benign, rounded scree fields, reminiscent of many Sawatch Range peaks, but the Hopeful gives hope to skiers (no pun intended) and an opportunity to experience this peak by skiing a classic couloir.

Driving south on US 24 from Leadville, if you have ever peered west into the mountains, you have probably seen the Hopeful Couloir without even realizing it. Some of the tallest mountains in the Lower 48 reside in this region of the Sawatch Range, and Mount Hope tends to become lost among the surrounding giants. It should not, however, become lost among other peaks on your list, as this route is a real gem."

"Mount Hope’s east ridge is a fun excursion on an overlooked mountain. Scramble on a solid ridge to a flat summit, which may surprise you with a gift of wildflowers."
