Birthday Peak

Birthday Peak Professional Review and Guide

"This mountain forms part of the Continental Divide and lies on the boundary between Chaffee and Gunnison Counties. The trail, which is used for the initial part of this hike, continues to Kroenke Lake, Browns Pass and over to the Cottonwood Pass Road. Birthday Peak is in a section of the Sawatch Range known as the Collegiate Peaks for its impressive collection of skyscraping fourteeners, with names like Harvard, Columbia, Yale and Princeton.

Bask on this summit, surrounded by giants — the skyscraping Collegiate Peaks."

This was my birthday present to me...I had some time so I loaded up my gear and my dog and we set out to climb birthday peak on my 45th!! It was a great hike in. There were lots of stream crossings so we had plenty of water and the trail was good...but a bit popular. We passed other hikers both coming and going and saw some camp setups along the way. At the base of Birthday Peak it opens to a beautiful meadow that is surrounded by the big 14ers everywhere you look. After a good trek to the peak we went back down to the meadow and took a nap before heading back to our camp. A most memorable birthday ever!
