Warner Route

Warner Route is a hiking trail in Montrose County, Colorado. It is within Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It is 1.5 miles long and begins at 8,286 feet altitude. Traveling the entire trail is 3.2 miles with a total elevation gain of 2,762 feet. Near the end of the trail are restrooms. This trail connects with the following: Warner Point Trail.

"The walk to Warner Point follows a roller-coaster path along a ridge offering awesome views of the Black Canyon. Kids love exploring the varied terrain, scrambling up and down each little summit on the trail. Benches along the way serve as destinations for small hikers or as delightful spots from which to enjoy this high-desert garden.

At the trailhead, you can pick up a copy of the Warner Point Nature Trail guidebook. Stop here to have children experience the spicy fragrance of sagebrush by rubbing a few of its gray-green leaves between their fingers.

The trail begins in a stand of pinyons and junipers, many of which are gnarled and twisted by the area’s weather extremes. Size can be deceiving under such conditions. These trees, though short in stature, are hundreds of years old."
