Vallecito Creek Trail

Vallecito Creek Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Wildflowers and a lovely creek with tiny pools and waterfalls make this hike extra special. If you’re in want of a stunning day hike, try the first few miles. If not, the entire out-and-back hike makes a nice backpack trip.

Vallecito Creek Trail 529 begins in a ponderosa pine forest interspersed with aspens and conifers amid the steep granite walls of a narrow, impressive canyon. The trail skirts the western edge of the Vallecito Campground, reaching the north end in 0.6 mile. Soon afterward you will cross Fall Creek via a bridge."

Fantastic scenery, but the bridge had been bombed out by an avalanche. I had to result to walking down a game trail on the wrong side of the creek, and making a very sketchy creek crossing. The bridge will not be repalced this season.

Used the Vallecito Creek Trail to get to the Johnson Creek Trail and Columbine Pass. Great hike. Columbine Lake (just below the pass) is phenomenal! Enjoy this great backdoor access to a good view of the overcrowded Chicago Basin (on the other side of Columbine Pass).
