Castle Peak

Castle Peak Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Castle Peak is the southernmost fourteener in the Elk Range and perhaps the most elusive. Its distinct pyramidal shape can be spied from Mount Crested Butte and other peaks in the area, but it is not visible from the town of Aspen or anywhere along CO 82. Though Castle is widely regarded as the easiest fourteener in the Elks, it offers up excellent spring skiing on its northern and eastern aspects.

While the east face of Castle is an extreme ski route and difficult to find in good condition, the north face is very reliable and makes for a great moderate ski descent for the aspiring ski mountaineer. As an added bonus, Castle’s North Face Couloir is easily paired with neighboring Conundrum Peak’s Conundrum Couloir, a more advanced run that will add a bit of spice to your day if Castle just isn’t enough."
