South Fork-Roaring Gulch Semiloop

South Fork-Roaring Gulch Semiloop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Although you can hike this semiloop in either direction, I describe the clockwise route. On this trip you’ll enjoy wonderful views, colorful wildflowers, and much in the way of forest and alpine scenes. The foliage is especially beautiful in the fall.

Post-marker 724 points the way to the trail, which descends a moderate-to-steep grade past an old cabin. There’s an unsigned trail junction at 0.3 mile. The trail to the north leads 0.5 mile to the South Fork Primitive Camp area, where there is an outhouse and room to camp. Continue due west and cross the Conejos River via a footbridge at 0.5 mile. Signs point the way right (northwest) to the South Fork and Roaring Gulch Trails. Stay on the trail, and be sure to keep gates closed as you hike through a mixed forest of aspens and evergreens."
