Sand Ramp Trail

Sand Ramp Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A lesser-used trail along the northern edge of the dunes. Water can be scarce along this route; it’s a good idea to bring more than you think you need. The temperatures can be higher and the efforts more taxing than you anticipate."

Can start at pt of no return & do "little medano" first, or take road (need 4wd) & start at trail head. Beautiful hike...a bit of everything --- mountains, dunes, meadows. Small elevation changes...tough hiking, as a lot is in sand dune edge. Sometimes hard to see trail markers, but you'll get the hang pretty quickly & there typically are other foot prints...but we didn't see anyone until we turned back. We only went as far as Aspen...had an amazing view of Mt Herard & the north side of the dune field (star dune field). Highly recommend! Take plenty of food &'ll need the energy.
