Blanca Peak is the high point of a high alpine oasis featuring a great scramble and magnificent scenery. This hard-earned peak is my favorite climb of all the 14ers.

Quite the experience. Really started to enjoy the hiking after getting above Lake Como -- before that it was mostly trudging along on the ATV road in the blistering sun. (Still fun, but not as much.) Summit climb was a little above the experience level of my hiking companion and I -- scrambling up loose rocks was a little scary at times. Absolutely amazing views from the peak, worth the pain. The descent was a little arduous, again on the ATV road in the heat, with people riding 4x4s kicking dust in our faces. But the feeling of accomplishment back at our car at the bottom was wonderful!! I would recommend hiking Blanca to those who are very motivated by reaching the summit and who don't mind a mostly less-than-scenic hike the first day to get to Como.
