    "Zmudowski State Beach (pronounced mud-OW-ski ) is a wide, isolated beach backed by sand dunes and expansive agricultural fields. It is a popular area for fishermen, equestrians, and bird watchers.The state beach sits at the northern tip of Monterey County, stretching across 177 acres. The land was donated to the state in 1950 by Watsonville schoolteacher Mary Zmudowski. The Pajaro River forms the boundary between Monterey County and Santa Cruz County, draining into Monterey Bay at Zmudowski State Beach. At the mouth of the river, the estuary has been set aside as a natural preserve. To the south, the state beach ends near Moss Landing State Beach (Hike 13)." Read more
