Covington Flat is a rarely visited gem in the crown of Joshua Tree National Park, offering seclusion among some of the park’s largest Joshua trees. The short Covington Crest Trail leads past some of these trees to the lip of the Little San Bernardino Mountains, where unfathomable canyons twist down into the Coachella Valley below. This trip is especially enjoyable near sunset on a partially cloudy day, when you can watch the sky light up in rich red splendor as the sun retires behind San Jacinto.
