This overnight loop to the highest of the High Sierra Camps may be hiked in either direction, approaching Vogelsang from the west via Rafferty Creek, or from the east via the Lyell Fork and Evelyn Lake. If you have only one night to spend, you can make an out-and-back hike of 13.4 miles via Rafferty Creek, but this area really deserves more time, at least three days. It will be described here in a clockwise direction, that is, via Lyell Fork, returning via Rafferty Creek, because the ascent is more gradual.
