You can visit all of the High Sierra Camps in one multiday backpack on this classic Yosemite route over some of the finest and most varied scenery in the park. Each of the camps has an adjoining camping area for backpackers with pit toilets and piped water. It is a heavily traveled route; backpackers, guests of the camps, horses, and packers carrying personal gear and supplies, all travel these same trails, campgrounds are usually very busy, and permits at a premium. You cannot expect a deep wilderness experience, but the camaraderie that comes from sharing the day's adventures with other hikers almost makes up for it. There are always bears hanging out around the camps. You can begin this loop from any of the trailheads to any of the camps, but beginning at Tuolumne Meadows, making Glen Aulin your first stop gives you an easy first day on the trail and extra time to adjust to the high elevation.
