This is the shortest route into the rugged and remote Clark Range. The first part of the hike is through a recent burn, but the dramatic setting of the colorful Ottoway Lakes basin more than makes up for the less interesting beginning. There's a good deal of climbing involved, but nothing extremely steep, unless you decide to make the optional side trip to Red Peak Pass.
