Lake Vernon lies in a real subalpine setting at an elevation of only 6,568 feet, so this loop is a good way to get in a real High Sierra backpack while the higher country is still under snow. The wild flowers and waterfalls along the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir on the last leg of the trip are spectacular; there are Native American sites to investigate in Tiltill Valley and good camping at Rancheria Falls.
