Harden Lake

Harden Lake Professional Review and Guide

"The trail to Harden Lake follows the original Tioga Road built in 1883. It was closed to vehicles in 1961 when the current Tioga Road was completed. The hike parallels the Middle Fork of the Tuolumne River downstream through a beautiful pine forest. The river contains small cascades and a variety of swimming holes. Harden Lake, at an elevation of 7,600 feet, is a popular, yet not crowded, fishing and picnicking spot."

More Harden Lake Professional Reviews and Guides

"Only about an hour’s hike from White Wolf Campground, this lake attracts quite a number of summer visitors, virtually all of them dayhikers, although one could camp near Harden Lake. From mid-June through July this shallow lake can be fine for swimming, but the lake lies in a leaky basin, and by mid-August it usually has dwindled to an oversized wading pool. Don’t expect to catch any fish, since the lake becomes far too shallow by late summer to support any."
