This is a walk that has it all—as long as you are willing to ascend the steep 600 feet to the initial pass. The view across the middle Gaylor Lake to the Cathedral Range is striking: an expanse of dark-blue water with the craggy peaks as a backdrop. The meadows surrounding Gaylor Lakes are unusual for the Sierra—lush, moist grass as well as drier spots that are perfect for a picnic. If you wish to continue to the Great Sierra Mine on Tioga Hill, you can see a piece of Tioga history, including the slowly collapsing Great Sierra Cabin.
