Little Nellie Falls

Little Nellie Falls Professional Review and Guide

"The dry chaparral growing along most of this trail does not stir great interest among hikers who like their trails "pretty," and serves thereby as a kind of buffer against crowding at this exquisite forest oasis. All the better for those of us to enjoy a peaceful out-and-back jaunt on a historic, old-time country road."

"Little Nellie Falls is a 30-foot, two-tiered cataract cascading off moss-covered granite into a pool. The trail follows the Old Coulterville Road from Big Meadow to Little Nellie Falls just outside of the park in the Stanislaus National Forest. The Old Coulterville Road was the first wagon road extending into Yosemite Valley, dating back to 1874. A landslide permanently blocked the road in 1982."
