Four Mile Trail

Four Mile Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Yosemite Valley’s features change appearance with elevation above the valley floor and are best absorbed by viewing them from above, below, and straight on. Unless you are a rock climber, the Four Mile Trail provides the best location to complete this task. It follows a path of nearly continuous views from Glacier Point, on the south rim, to Yosemite Valley and lies directly across from Yosemite Falls. Thanks to a convenient, albeit pricey, tour bus from Yosemite Valley to Glacier Point, this one-way hike can be completed without any logistical difficulty."

"This trail provides a very scenic descent to Yosemite Valley—a descent that will acquaint you with the valley’s main features, giving you perfect views of the Yosemite Falls sequence and a personally experienced feel for the valley’s 3,000-foot depth.

This hike is rated easy because not much energy is expended, but it is hard on the knees. You can also hike the route in reverse, and those in good shape may choose to combine an ascent of the Four Mile Trail and a descent of the Panorama Trail for a truly exhilarating day."

I chose this hike down from Glacier Point for the new views of the valley. It would be magical if there had been water over Yosemite Falls. I also wanted the kids to complete the hike. They would have made the hike down 60mins faster than I did if we had let loose of the reins! :) It has been a long time since I descended 3200'! Ouch! I almost bite off more than I could chew at 68! :) Great hike. Recommended!
