Mount Baden-Powell Professional Review and Guide
"A charming hike, and a great warm-up peak. The mountain, honoring the founder of the Boy Scouts, is an excellent hike for scouts of all ages. This is a very straightforward trail."
--Jay Anderson, Climbing California's Mountains (Falcon Guides).
A fun hike, mostly north facing plenty of shade, getting to trail head a little difficult: check for ever changing road closures. Get down before the thunder and lightning around mid afternoon (aug and sept) there is some exposure near the top along with breath taking views north sout east and west!
Highway 2 is closed approx. 8 miles before the trail head so you can't get there. At the end of the road there is a parking lot and you can pick up the PCT which will intersect with the Mount Baden-Powell trail, but it's 8 miles to the peak from there.
Very nice hike for a group of Scouts. Great weather, easy to read trail markings, no snow on trail (fortunately). All kids made it to the top except 1 (heavy blisters), most ran through their 2 liters of water before the top. A smaller group went over to Mount Burnham (1 mi RT), a challenging up and down right along the ridge line. Overall, a great trip, would love to do this trail again.
