Big Pines Recreation Area: Table Mountain Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Big Pines Recreation Area lies astride the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway (CA 2) in the San Gabriel Mountains. It features three picnic areas and five campgrounds: Table Mountain, Apple Tree, Lake, Mountain Oak, and Jackson Flats Group Campground (see nos. 314, 315, 316, 317 below). There is a visitor center at the intersection of CA 2 and Big Pines Highway. Inspiration Point, located on Blue Ridge 1.5 miles west of the center, provides an impressive view of the San Gabriel Mountains, including Mount Baden-Powell, Mount Baldy, Iron Mountain, and other rugged peaks of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness.
Hiking is the main activity in the area, and information about trails can be obtained at the visitor center. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail passes not far to the south. Elevation 7,000 feet. Stay limit fourteen days. Open May through November."
