Thornewood Preserve came to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District as a gift. The property, now 109 acres, was developed by Julian and Edna Thorne in the 1920s,and was adjacent to the much larger August Schilling estate. Both properties were part of the Mexican Rancho Cañada de Raimundo, which was purchased by lumberman Dennis Martin in 1846. This trail guide includes the following trails: A Trip through the Woods to a Historic Lake.
