Red Mountain Basin

Red Mountain Basin Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Red Mountain Basin offers some of the scenery for which the High Sierra is famous. However, a fairly long journey through montane forest is necessary before you reach the classic granite terrain below rugged Le Conte Divide. Aside from 3 miles of moderate ascent, most of the 15-mile journey is over gently graded trail on the way to a bounty of picturesque lakes, some near the trail and others requiring straightforward cross-country travel. A remote trailhead, lightly used trail, and assortment of lakes from which to choose for campsites combine to ensure a reasonable expectation of solitude. Crossing Le Conte Divide at Hell-for-Sure Pass opens the gates to further adventures in Kings Canyon National Park."
