"This moderate hike is a reliable, well-maintained exercise route that’s easily accessible from Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. It’s also dog-friendly, with plenty of trash cans, plastic-bag dispensers, and water troughs. Most people take the loop that begins with an uphill climb under sycamore trees, gives way to valley views, and empties into a street of private homes and back to the parking lot. Fryman Canyon is part of the 128-acre Wilacre Park, which also includes Franklin and Coldwater Canyon Parks and is run by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Follow the paved fire road as it curves upward past toyon (Christmas berry) bushes and sycamore trees. You’ll see quite a mix of hikers, from serious runners to dog walkers and moms with kids, yet the path is wide enough that it never seems overcrowded." Read more
