Founders Grove & Mahan Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The premier area for coastal redwoods in Humboldt Redwoods State Park (some would say in all of California) occurs on the alluvial flats near the union of the Eel River and its South Fork. Dyerville Flat near this confluence harbors the Founders Grove, the park’s most popular, which contains two of the tallest specimens, the Founders Tree and the Dyerville Giant. Three short loop trails provide access to Dyerville Flat and the Founders and Canfield Groves of redwoods. By using a short connecting trail, you can connect the Founders and Mahan Loops to create a 1.3-mile stroll through some of the park’s most impressive scenery. West of this trip is the Goosepen Loop, a half-mile-long, little-used trail through dark forest sandwiched between the Avenue of the Giants and US 101."
