Stuart Fork Professional Review and Guide

"Stuart Fork Trail is like a highway into the heart of the Trinity Alps. Not so much because it’s as crowded as a freeway during rush hour (though it can be), but because it leads so swiftly and smoothly into the inner sanctum of the Trinity Alps Wilderness. The trail seems to whisk you right up the drainage, through oaks and maples, into mixed conifers, past peaceful meadows, and finally to the treeless granite splendor of the Stuart Fork headwaters, tucked into a deep, glacier-carved slice in the wild terrain between Thompson Peak, Sawtooth Mountain, and Sawtooth Ridge. All the while you follow the spectacular course of Stuart Fork, one of the largest rivers in the Alps proper. Highlights: Together with Canyon Creek and Caribou Lakes, Stuart Fork forms the Holy Trinity of the Trinity Alps. Emerald and Sapphire Lakes, at the head of the canyon, are the crown jewels of the wilderness."
