The route to Shimmy Lake rises moderately through mixed conifers and open slopes of ceanothus bushes, with sweeping views east over Trinity Lake. The trail skirts marshy, lilypad-covered Lake Eleanor almost immediately (a good destination for families with small children), then climbs to little Shimmy Lake, a lightly used pond at the base of a rocky ridge. Highlights: A short hike to small and scenic Shimmy Lake, with lilypad-covered Lake Eleanor thrown in for good measure.
