Hot Springs Mountain, the highest point in San Diego County at 6533 feet, has for decades been a destination for hikers, mountain bikers, and off-road vehicle riders. Since 2005, however, the 25,000-acre property on which the peak stands—the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation— has been closed to all public use. Whether the reservation reopens to recreational use, and if so, what uses will be permitted, is unknown. Nevertheless, the hike to Hot Springs Mountain is included in this volume, as it leads to one of the county’s most significant geographic points of interest.
