Kaweah Traverse: Black Kaweah to Second Kaweah Professional Review and Guide
"Many of the most prominent climbers in Sierra history have left their mark in the Kaweahs, including Charles Michael, Norman Clyde, Glen Dawson, Jules Eichorn, and James Hutchinson. Variations on a traverse of the Kaweah Range have been tried by these climbers and others throughout the years. Jim Smith and Neil Ruge bagged most of the summits on trips into the area in 1935 and 1936. Jim Koontz, Fred Peters, and Pete Murphy made the first ascents of Koontz Pinnacle and Bilko Pinnacle on their attempted traverse in August of 1953. John and Ruth Mendenhall made a determined attempt in August of 1968. Dick Beach and Barbara Lilley added their mark in 1970. Claude and Nancy Fiddler attempted a traverse in 1985, but they were turned back by long sections of loose and scary rock."
