Florence Peak is the tallest peak in the ring of summits high above Mineral King Valley and has two fine ascent and descent routes from its summit. One route is via Farewell Gap and the Bullfrog Lakes, and the other is by way of Franklin Pass and the upper northeast slopes of the summit. In addition, there are numerous other skiing opportunities in the immediate area, including the impressive northwest bowl above the Franklin Lakes and below Florence Peak and the east- or west-facing slopes of Tulare Peak. A base camp at 9,200 feet in Farewell Canyon would allow excellent access to the trips described below and those of Vandever Mountain.
