The Farewell Gap Trail begins at the end of the road in Mineral King. The trail follows the East Fork Kaweah River up the stunning glacial valley in the shadows of 11,000-foot granite peaks. The path eventually climbs over Farewell Gap at the head of the valley, leaving Sequoia National Park. This hike stays on the valley floor and gains relatively little elevation. The trail passes two waterfalls to Aspen Flats, a grove of quaking aspen on the east edge of the river, and Soda Springs, a colorful, bubbling mineral spring along the river.
