Los Gatos Creek Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"The town of Los Gatos (Spanish for “The Cats”) was given its name because the hills above the town were once populated by mountain lions. Today Los Gatos is home to numerous upscale shops and restaurants and its residential neighborhoods are among the most fashionable in the South Bay. Vasona Park, also located in Los Gatos, is the site of a lake for boating and fishing as well as a small-scale children’s railroad, the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad. The Los Gatos Creek Trail is wide and flat with the exception of the final short stretch up to the top of the Lexington Dam. A multi-use trail it is heavily used by runners, walkers, in-line skaters and cyclists, especially on weekends. It is important to be careful and to avoid excessive speed. Although there is little shade along the way, this ride is good any time of year."

"This short, unpaved rail-trail follows Los Gatos Creek from the historic Forbes Mill Museum to the spillway at Lexington Reservoir. Surface: Asphalt."

"This wide, paved trail attracts local residents and park visitors."

"There is some car traffic along the early parts of the ride, but there is a wide shoulder for safety. The hill climb is one of the biggest in the South Bay, climbing to an elevation of 3,160 feet at Castle Rock State Park. The last 2 miles of the ride into Los Gatos is along the Los Gatos Creek Trail. This section is a dirt trail, but is usually quite smooth and normally does pose a great problem for road bikes with skinny tires."

"A wide trail through Los Gatos Creek’s narrow canyon follows part of a historic route to the coast. Now modern joggers and strollers frequent the way used by Indians and early settlers."

"Join hikers, joggers, bicyclists, skaters and bird-lovers on miles of creekside trails. Convenient trail entry points at Los Gatos Creek and Vasona Lake parks and at major street crossings allow for short loops or trips of any length."

The trail is great for a quick easy ride, with some nice views along the way. Most of the way is pretty populated and is used by runners as well. The portion of the ride through Vasona Park is beautiful, but as there are so many picnickers (and geese) around, you can't speed through safely. The last stretch up to the Lexington Reservoir is gravel and not ideal for road bikes. But if you're looking for an easy outing, you can just turn around when you hit the gravel. The ride up to the reservoir includes two killer hills that i watched a number of people get off and take by foot to go *down.*

Great, easy trail. Lots of activity. Went from Los Gatos Creek Park entrance to the Campbell Park entrance and back. Well maintained. Theres also a doggie park at the Los Gatos Park entrance as well as casting ponds for fly fishing.
