Located in the lower Sierra foothills region, New Hogan is just east about 4 miles from Camanche Reservoir. It’s not the hottest ticket for fly fishing, but it is a good add-on to any foothills adventure. The main sport fish here is striped bass, but you do have four other species of game fish to pursue with a fly. Stripers go on a short topwater spree starting in September and ending in late October. Watch for birds diving, swirls on the surface, or busting bait, and get over to the action pronto! Types of Fish: Rainbow and brown trout, largemouth and striped bass, panfish. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
