Alive with birdlife, this placid waterway leads from serene pastures to a beach with thundering surf. Marine Mammal Protection Act applies. Americano Creek offers a delightful smorgasbord of paddling environments, from rolling hills to a steep, fiord-like mouth, from a narrow creek to a wide estero, from warm sun to cold, windy fog. Private lands border both sides of the estero and livestock graze on the hills, which turn wonderfully green in the winter. In their season, migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, eagles, and red-tailed hawks dwell here. Duck hunters seasonally enjoy hunting the waterfowl along this scenic treasure. A local winter event is an informal fun race called the Cow Patty Pageant. Kayakers paddle from the bridge to the beach, and return. This is done at a low tide to add mud and humor to the challenge.

this is a great paddle. when you put in it's hard to imagine that it goes anywhere, it looks like a irrigation ditch. in spots it's narrower than my sea kayak is long. this is an Estuary during the winter it's tidal, you should check tides and plan accordingly. during the summer the mouth gets closed by sand and it effectively becomes a long lake. Sometimes the wind can get tough, especially nearer the beach. this is a great paddle for an over night camping trip on the beach, the only real way to get there is via boat. It's a easy day paddle (if you paddle regularly) about a 11 mile round trip to the beach. about 2.5 miles in you need to be cautious and stay towards the south bank to stay out of the shallow water. it's too muddy to get out and very easy to get stuck.
