Summit City Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Summit City Loop is an easy to moderate trail that passes five very different lakes as well as the historic site of Summit City. The trail begins on Northern Sierra #25: North Bloomfield– Bowman Lake Trail, 3 miles south of Jackson Meadow Reservoir. The uneven formed trail travels through a mix of forest and small meadows. The first two lakes—Catfish and Tollhouse—are small lakes set in granite basins and surrounded by firs. Some excellent backcountry campsites can be found on the shores of both lakes. Anglers will enjoy fishing in the small lakes as well as in Jackson Meadow Reservoir. French Lake is a short distance off the trail. Vehicle travel is permitted for the first 0.3 miles, but you must hike the remaining distance to the lake. Mountain bikes are permitted to travel the entire way to the lake. Special Attractions: Trail passes five lakes and reservoirs that offer excellent backcountry camping and fishing; Historic site of Summit City and its cemetery; Trail is a groomed snowmobile route in winter. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."
