Mount Morgan (South) is an ideal introduction to backcountry winter camping. Approaching the peak, the terrain is gentle and campsites can be selected in the protected shelter of the trees near Kenneth Lake. In the event of an unexpected storm, you can quickly retreat to Rock Creek Road and your car. For a variety of reasons, the snow does not accumulate to typical depths expected on a peak of this elevation in the Sierra Nevada. Because of the potential for sparse snow coverage, this summit should be skied in mid- to late winter or early spring.
