As seen from near the trailhead at Mosquito Flat, the Rock Creek crest forms a jagged skyline of massive peaks and rugged gendarmes. The wild traverse of this crest involves nearly 4 miles of mostly fourth and fifth class terrain and stays above 13,000 feet for much of its length. The exposure is quite spectacular in a few spots. Along the way, the traverse takes in the summits of Ruby Peak, Mt. Mills, Petit Griffon Spire, Mt. Abbot, Mt. Dade, Pipsqueak Spire, Bear Creek Spire, Pyramid Peak, and Ruby Finch Peak. It is also possible to add Little Lakes Peak and Mt. Morgan for a complete traverse of the basin.
