"White Chief Trail climbs steeply at times into a horseshoe-shaped canyon with towering walls holding a pair of lovely meadows, historic mining ruins, and caves. Along the way are great views and delightful wildflower gardens. The naturally occurring caves and old mine shafts (some privately owned) are potentially dangerous—check with the park rangers about current conditions." Read more

This place is gorgeous! I’ve day hiked it, and also camped there. The climb is steep, but worth it when you get to the meadow, then the old silver mines- that never actually had any silver, just gorgeous white marble. The winds can pick up when you’re really up in the bowl area; white chief lake is amazing, if you can crag hop and find it. Use caution always.

Beautiful scenery, plenty of fresh water, & fantastic caves galore to explore! A wonderful day hike or an overnighter if you get too caught up in the exquisite scenery & nature! Saw countless velvety bucks, bears, & marmots; so bring rope & bear containers!
