"The six enchanting Mosquito Lakes range from densely forest- rimmed to barren and rockbound. Formerly, the lakes were extremely popular destinations before the 1.5-mile trail from Cold Springs Campground was abandoned, camping at the Lake #1 was prohibited, and the trail beyond the first lake devolved into a cross-country route. Nowadays, a smattering of dayhikers trek up the newer trail to the first lake, but only a few of those travel farther off-trail to the upper lakes, offering a good chance of solitude for those who do make the journey." "The diverse scenery found around the six Mosquito Lakes varies from forest-rimmed lakes to barren and rockbound. The trail is only maintained as far as Mosquito Lake #1, but a distinct use trail can be easily followed to Lake #3. Beyond there, cross-country skills will be necessary to access the upper lakes. Those who travel that far should have the area pretty much to themselves. All of the beautiful lakes are well suited for swimming and fishing. Backpackers will find the best campsites at Mosquito Lake #3." Read more
