If you are hoping to see a bear, this loop should give you plenty of opportunities. The historic Squatter’s Cabin, Huckleberry Meadow, and the Washington Tree are also along this route. Begin by following the covered stairs leading down to the crosswalk to reach the Giant Forest Museum. Cross the Generals Highway and head toward the museum. Follow the paved walkway in front of the museum to its end and arrive at the Alta Trail. As you travel through the forest at 0.2 mile, you pass the Bear Hill Trail and continue straight. At 0.4 mile you reach the Hazelwood Nature Trail and make a right (east), passing interpretive signs along the way.
